New project related to original Gundam in the works, according to Yoshikazu Yasuhiko

The world will always needs more Gundam! (Sieg Zeon)

That’s right baby, more Gundam coming soon! How could anyone not be excited for more mecha in their lives? If they aren’t they’re probably lame and you should shame them for it.

Now lets look at this announcement. An interview with Asahi Shimbun Digital was posted on February 21st, and during the second part of the interview we received some details of this new project from the original Mobile Suit Gundam animation director Yoshikazu Yasuhiko. In this interview he talked about how much longer he planned to remain in the business, stating “I want to continue working for another five or six years.” He also showed a desire to finish work on his current manga Inui to Tatsumi – Transbaikal Senki. But the most important news is that he said he is currently working on a new anime project related to the original Gundam series.

The entire quote that Yoshikazu gave can be read as follows:

“In terms of anime, I’m going to make one more ‘Gundam’ story in the end. I can’t go into details yet, but it is related to First Gundam, which I can’t stop loving. Please look forward to it.”

-Yoshikazu Yasuhiko

If you want to read the full ASD interview and see more of what Yoshikazu talked about regarding his time with Gundam and his reasoning for working on Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin you can find the entire interview here, though it is entirely in Japanese just so you know going in.

The man himself.

I’m excited to see what this new project will be personally. The fact that it has something to do with the original Gundam is what’s interesting to speculate about. Will the story still center around Amuro Ray, or maybe another character entirely? We’ll have to wait and see. But as more info or announcements come out, we’ll keep you updated.
