Doki Doki Literature Club was a 2017 game release that was seemingly your typical anime dating sim with four girls of ranging likes, dislikes and ideals that was gonna be a simple but rewarding story. But what we got was a psychologically terrifying visual novel game that messed with our computers and made us think that the girls were actually going to come out of the computer and murder us.
The Creator of “Doki Doki Literature Club”, Dan Salvato, teased more content coming to the game and an entirely new visual novel in the works. “Two years of creation went into it”, Dan tweeted out on January 2nd of 2020.
“This will be the year I can reclaim my happiness so I can deliver it to others! My Goal is to fully return to doing things I enjoy, such as making games, first releasing new DDLC content (not a sequel), then blowing the dust off my next original new VN which has been on hold for 2 Years”. If this is true, we can expect another fantastic Visual Novel in 2020, if the new content for DDLC releases early 2020, and the new VN could be released later in the year.
Overall this could breathe new life in the visual novel series, with it not getting much love and consideration over the years. Mostly narrative driven and choice based, visual novel games don’t get as much reception due to their small creation. But this could put them on the map as games that could rival more popular projects and studios with their characters, story and well written narrative.
