The live-action Akira movie has been indefinitely delayed with Matrix 4 taking its place.
Hollywood Reporter reports that the as of yet untitled Matrix film (tentitively dubbed Matrix 4) will premier May 21st, 2021. While Akira was set to release on that date, it has now been “undated” with no date at all.
The director Taika Waititi is also working on Thor: Love and Thunder, so it may be that either the film has been delayed until Taika has finished his work on that film, or he is no longer working on Akira (Let’s hope not).
The former is more likely, as even though the film was once postponed indefinitely, it was later announced by Waititi that while he was working on Thor: Love and Thunder, the film was still getting made.
It seems this may still be the case, though the delay is no less strange. Hollywood Reporter states that Matrix 4 will now release the same day as John Wick: Chapter 4. Does this mean Warner Bros. have more faith in the Matrix than Akira to topple John Wick?
Honestly, we don’t need a live action Akira. We have had enough unoriginal woke crap from Hollywood lately. So let’s thank Keanu Reeves for double duty and enjoy the real Akira right here!
