Adult Swim and Crunchyroll announce Blade Runner anime, set before Blade Runner 2049.

Blade Runner: Dark Lotus

Yesterday it was announced that Crunchyroll, Adult Swim and Alcon Entertainment were producing a new anime set in the Blade Runner universe before the events of Blade Runner 2049. The series will be directed by Shinji Aramaki, known for directing the Appleseed films, and Kenji Kamiyama, known for his work on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Creative producer for Dark Lotus will be Shinichirō Watanabe, former director of Cowboy Bebop.

As of right now not much is known about the new anime, but it is confirmed that it will be 13 episodes in length and is set to begin production following the end of production for Kamiyama and Aramaki’s reboot of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The only other information as of this moment is that at launch it will have an English dub for Adult Swim, and an English sub for Crunchyroll. We’ll keep you updated as more information comes out about this series in the future. Are you excited at the idea of a Blade Runner anime?
